The Bell Keeps Its Own Time

The bell rings when it likes, which is roughly on the hour and sometimes twice. Nobody in the street checks it against their phone any more; they have agreed to live a little behind or a little ahead. The tower was painted terracotta so long ago that the colour is now officially the town’s. One cloud has been parked above it since lunchtime. Under it somebody in a hat is deciding whether the church is worth the climb.

The canvas

• Printed with fade-resistant inks on poly-cotton canvas, 344 g/m²
• Hand-stretched over solid wood bars, 3.18 cm (1.25″) deep
• Gallery wrap: the sides continue the picture as a mirror of its edges, so nothing on the front is lost around the frame
• Arrives ready to hang, mounting brackets included
• Vertical 2:3, in four sizes from 30 × 46 cm (12 × 18″) to 61 × 91 cm (24 × 36″)
• Unframed, or in a floating pine frame — black, brown or white — in 30 × 46, 51 × 76 and 61 × 91 cm
