The Path Down to Town

There is a road, but nobody who lives here uses it. The path goes straight down between the rocks, past the bush that scratches everyone and the cypress that has been pointing the way for a century. From up here the town looks finished, every roof in its place. Halfway down it starts to smell of lunch. She has done this walk so many times her feet choose the stones without asking her.
