The Shade Moves at Four

At four the shadow of the palms reaches the far kerb, and the street rearranges itself around it. The shop with the dark front has not decided whether it is open. Somebody on the fourth floor is watering a plant that will not survive August. She knows exactly how long the shade lasts on this side and walks at the speed that gets her to the corner before it runs out. The palms have seen the building go up, go pink and go slightly out of fashion. They do not comment.

The canvas

• Printed with fade-resistant inks on poly-cotton canvas, 344 g/m²
• Hand-stretched over solid wood bars, 3.18 cm (1.25″) deep
• Gallery wrap: the sides continue the picture as a mirror of its edges, so nothing on the front is lost around the frame
• Arrives ready to hang, mounting brackets included
• Vertical 2:3, in four sizes from 30 × 46 cm (12 × 18″) to 61 × 91 cm (24 × 36″)
• Unframed, or in a floating pine frame — black, brown or white — in 30 × 46, 51 × 76 and 61 × 91 cm
